Chad's Top Five Disney Resorts!

Updated: Apr 10

Top Five Disney Resorts by Chad Smith

Which Disney hotel is your favorite? It’s an easy question that’s surprisingly difficult to answer! But, after careful thought, here are my top five resorts, along with a few reasons why each one made the list.

Coming in at Number 5: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is an absolute marvel, thanks to its extraordinary ability to offer rooms that overlook a breathtaking African-inspired savanna. Imagine waking up to the serene sight of giraffes lazily grazing, gazelles frolicking, and majestic kudu wandering by as you sip your morning coffee. Picture a gentle breeze brushing through the air as you step out onto your private porch, where you’ll witness a giraffe stretching its long neck to reach a pile of morning hay or a zebra flicking its tail as it grazes in the vast expanse of the savanna. The lodge offers a front-row seat to the wild wonders of nature. Hidden gem alert: don’t miss the Zebra Dome at the quick-service restaurant—it’s a delightful chocolate treat that you’ll never forget. Trust me, it’s a little taste of heaven!

Coming in at Number 4: The Contemporary Resort

The Contemporary Resort is truly one of a kind. Where else can you witness a monorail zipping right through your hotel? The atmosphere here is filled with a unique blend of fun and sophistication. The resort boasts chic boutiques, a lively character dining experience at Chef Mickey’s, and a delightful quick-service spot at Contempo Café. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, admiring the vintage Disney murals, or soaking in the jaw-dropping views, a visit to the Contemporary instantly fills your heart with Disney magic. For an unforgettable experience, make a reservation at the top-floor California Grill. Time it right, and you’ll be treated to a delicious meal followed by a front-row seat to the spectacular Magic Kingdom fireworks display—a perfect way to end the evening.

Coming in at Number 3: Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Ah, the Polynesian Resort—this vibrant and colorful oasis can easily claim the top spot in my heart! With its bold hues reminiscent of the Brady Bunch kitchen, the Polynesian radiates a laid-back, tropical vibe. This resort offers a little slice of paradise, complete with a monorail station, a hidden tiki bar, and some of the most stunning views of Cinderella Castle. The first floor is a lively hub, where you can explore lush gardens, grab a quick bite at Captain Jack’s, or lounge by the pool while taking in the gorgeous bay views. The scent of Polynesian-inspired dishes wafts through the air as the sounds of a spirited tiki show fill the space. Rooms are spacious, luxurious, and always guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. A perfect day here includes breakfast at Kona Café with their famous Tonga Toast, poolside relaxation, a 3:30 p.m. lunch at the charming Sam’s Grotto (where the atmosphere might just make you feel like you’re in a different world), and a dinner at Captain Jack’s, followed by a sweet Dole Whip as you watch the evening fireworks over Bay Lake. Fun fact: legend has it that this is the very hotel where The Beatles famously disbanded. Truly, the Polynesian is an unforgettable treasure!

Coming in at Number 2: The Grand Floridian

The Grand Floridian is the epitome of elegance and charm. With a rich history of hosting high-profile guests like Princess Diana and Michael Jackson, this regal resort exudes grandeur from every corner. Stepping into the Grand Floridian is like stepping back in time, with its Victorian-inspired architecture and whimsical nostalgia. Upon entering, look up to marvel at the stunning stained-glass dome that will take your breath away. For a taste of luxury, indulge in the famous Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare or opt for the delectable Lobster Roll at the Grand Floridian Café. Whether you’re lounging by one of the serene pools or experiencing the whimsical splash of the giant teacup at the main pool, this resort offers both tranquility and fun in equal measure. Everything about the Grand Floridian feels lavish and enchanting, a truly majestic retreat.

And Finally, Coming in at Number 1: Disney’s Beach Club

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is the clear winner for me! The resort’s prime location, with walking access to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios, gives it an undeniable edge. The beachside atmosphere, complete with a sand-bottom pool, offers a unique and relaxing vacation experience all its own. For a fun, retro treat, head to Beaches and Cream for the iconic Kitchen Sink sundae, a crowd-pleaser that will steal the spotlight at your table. Cape May Café is perfect for a laid-back seafood feast, with their famous bucket of mussels—perfect for an afternoon by the pool. Plus, the resort shares its stunning beach with the Yacht Club, giving you double the offerings for quick service, gift shops, and more. Disney veterans will fondly recall the legendary Art Lark, the impeccably dressed door greeter who made guests feel like royalty with his signature greeting: “To the Lady, to the Gentlemen.” A visit to the Beach Club is one that stays with you long after you’ve gone. The beachy scent and nostalgic charm of this special resort will linger in your memories for years to come.
